We are looking for a passionate Privacy Officer to join our team. You'll be the person who evangelizes privacy internally and externally, and helps us turn privacy into a competitive advantage and something the product differentiates on. Together with management, you will own the area of privacy and information security, compliance with privacy laws, and our systems and processes for ensuring a high standard for information security.

As Privacy Officer at Whereby, you’ll be part of a high-performing team that push improvements to the product several times a day. With a global user base that are relying on us, we need good processes for building privacy and security into our design and development process. We work cross-functionally with designing delightful user journeys in an iterative way. As Privacy Officer you'll be involved early on in the design process in order to quickly identify any privacy issues and make sure we put users' privacy and security at the forefront.


What will a typical week look like?

  • Own all processes related to privacy (reviews, updating data inventory) and be the Data Protection Officer / Chief Information Security Officer
  • Keep all user-facing privacy docs up-to-date (TOS, Privacy Policy, Cookie policy/list, Data Protection Policy, DPA, BAA, Security policy)
  • Be the face of the company externally in media, speak about privacy-first at conferences etc., engage with relevant communities and help our marketing team communicate about privacy
  • Keep overview of all data tracking and information security systems around this, including self-service features inside product (data export, consents) (analytics)
  • Work with product teams and engineering in developing new features in a privacy-friendly way
  • Have dialogue and answer questions from users regarding privacy and info security, handle data requests from users and own our self-service data export feature
  • Initiate assessment and management of risk related to the customer cloud environment
  • Establish routines to identify, manage and monitor risks or security incidents
  • Ensure that privacy and security controls are in place and documented
  • Define improvement plans and targets
  • Inform and advise the organization of obligations under applicable law
  • Keep dialogue with data authorities (National Security Authority - NSM, Financial Authorities, Open Web Application Security Project - OWASP, General Data Protection Regulation - Datatilsynet. etc.
  • Internal training in privacy and information security, incl. onboarding of new employees
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation and work with stakeholder management externally


What experience and skills are we looking for?

  • 10+ years of working with privacy and information security in the technology sector
  • Expert knowledge of privacy law
  • Experience in driving privacy processes and putting systems in place inside organizations
  • Experience in providing training
  • Very good technology understanding
  • Excellent communication skills, both writing and speaking
  • Good understanding of startups


  • You can work remotely from anywhere, but not more than +2/-6 hours from CET timezone. The majority of our team is based in Europe, and you will have to overlap with at least 3 of their working hours (9-17 CET).
  • The role will report to the Product Manager for Growth for daily work, but will also be part of the Engineering team led by our Engineering Manager.

About Us

Whereby is made by a team of ca. 40 passionate people spread across 12 locations in the small, independent Norwegian company Video Communication Service AS and parent company Videonor AS. The journey started in 2013 when the service was called, and in 2019 we went through a big rebranding process to become Whereby.
